Denver Bible Church Testimony

Hi. This is brother Scott with another Truth Time Look in the Book.

Part of my testimony begins in 2010. I was listening to a Denver Christian radio station, and over the duration of several days, I heard an outspoken local preacher rail against abortion, homosexuality, pornography, evolution, the justice system, and popular conservative talking heads who weren't conservative enough in his opinion. He had a segment every week called Theology Thursday where he talked about the Bible, and many times compared current events to it.

I found out his church was a 45 minute drive, so my wife and I attended. We were warmly welcomed and felt comfortable. This is before we knew anything about right division and reconciliation.

One couple in the congregation was beckoned up front to speak about their ministry. Every day they went to Planned Parenthood in Denver to, in their words, "Try to save babies from abortion." That struck a chord with my wife and me, so we began driving to Planned Parenthood every Saturday morning to plead with the moms and dads driving in for an abortion.

The husband of the leadership couple would yell out, "Judgment is coming to America! Abortion is murder! You will be judged for this!" At the time, my wife and I thought that was perfectly stated and Biblical. We got caught up in it and went to Planned Parenthood off and on, mostly on, every Saturday for six years, and attended the church for about the same amount of time. We never heard about searching the scriptures to see if what the pastor was preaching was true. So we never did.

Thankfully, I came across Truth Time Radio videos and started hearing different messages than what I was hearing from the pulpit. Just one example of many I could give, was, our pastor, again, the one who I first heard on the radio, would say, "You must ask for forgiveness to be saved." And he preached from the NKJV. We didn't think anything of it previously because we didn't know better. But the more we listened to Truth Time Radio messages and heard about searching the scriptures to see if what they were saying was true, we knew we had been attending the wrong church, and we were hearing the wrong preaching at Planned Parenthood. Instead of grace, it was a message of condemnation for sin. Just like a lot of street preachers do. Oh, and by the way, we used to watch street preacher videos and admired them as well.

So, after six years, we had made some very close friendships with many in the church, including the pastor and his wife. But once we knew he was preaching the wrong message for salvation, we immediately stopped attending. We were asked why, and we told them we go by 2 Corinthians 5:18-20. That God could not reconcile himself to sin. That God was in his Son, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing our trespasses unto us, and committed unto us the word of reconciliation. We said because of our trust and belief, only, in the gospel that saves today in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, we are saved and repenting and turning from sin and asking God for forgiveness plays no part in it. Immediately we were told that is "easy believism," and we should have no part in that. We told them this is where we must part ways.

So my wife and I are eternally grateful for Truth Time Radio and their message of, "Don't go by what we say. Search the scriptures for yourself. Anything we can talk you into, someone else can talk you out of." Amen!

Fast forward to now, and my wife and I have grown leaps and bounds in our understanding of God's word, continue to learn, and now we are excited to share it with others.

I am brother Scott and this was another Truth Time Look in the Book!
