In a recent phone call, an Acts 2 turn or burn water baptized for the remission of sins legalist told me that nowhere in the bible was it taught to sell ALL possessions.
To arrive at such a conclusion one must overlook a plethora of clear scripture.
Let's review the evidence:
"Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses, nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat." (Matthew 10:9-10)
Now carefully read the following and don't miss the condition for inheriting "everlasting life."
And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. (Matthew 19:29)
Today, many teach in veiled coded language, but here we see Jesus being very candid with His audience.
But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth." (Luke 12:31-33)
The sell all message was very clear and even continued into the book of Acts:
And all that believed were together, and had all things common; and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. (Acts 2:44-45)
"Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none." (Acts 3:6)
"And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet." (Acts 4:36-37)
It is obvious that Peter and the "all that believed" of the Acts 2 pentecostal church actually did what the Lord instructed them. But sadly, today we only have Acts 2 pretenders.
Having missed Paul's mystery concerning the church the body of Christ that began in Acts 9, they claim to follow Acts 2 doctrine - but at the end of the day only prove themselves to be cherry picking hypocrites.
