Bible Key Words and Meanings A-Z: "Atonement"

Hi! This is brother Scott with another Truth Time, Look in the Book!
Today is part 2 in my series, “Bible Key Words and Meanings A to Z.”
We continue with the letter “A.”
The word today is:

Atonement

In the Old Testament, forgiveness always immediately followed a God-approved atonement which consisted of a combination of animal sacrifice and of money. You will find a lot of examples throughout the book of Leviticus and elsewhere. But the blood of bulls and of goats cannot take away sin.
(Hebrews 10:4 KJV)
(4) For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

So Israel’s sacrifice atonement had to be performed every year.
(Leviticus 16:34 KJV)
(34) And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses.

And God actually grew weary of Israel’s continual sacrifices.
(Isaiah 1:11 KJV)
(11) To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.

But now, Jesus Christ is a God-approved atonement for us today, and forgiveness immediately followed for all of us. And because Jesus Christ lived a perfect, sinless life, he was the atonement that satisfied God completely. Christ’s blood sacrifice WAS able to take away sins, unlike the blood of bulls and of goats.
(Romans 5:11 KJV)
(11) And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

Christ’s perfect atonement is his gift to you for the taking.
You only need to believe and trust in it for your eternal salvation!
